The story I wrote and photographed of Kyle Bratcher was one of the most moving stories I have done. Kyle was 5 years old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. All he ever wanted to do was ride dirt bikes with his daddy.
“I just want to ride dirt bikes with my daddy”
He had to undergo several rounds of chemo and radiation therapy. He finally went into remission and he and his dad were out looking for a dirt bike for Kyle. Unfortunately Kyle started stumbling and his parents later discovered he was suffering radiation necrosis – an after affect of the radiation therapy. Kyle lost nearly all control of his body from the neck down. He cannot even hold himself upright, grip a handle, nothing.
Enter a local bike builder Tony Baustert. Tony built Kyle a custom Honda dirt bike with model aircraft remote controls and training wheels. This allowed Kyle’s parents to remotely control the bike while Kyle was strapped securely into the seat. He can now ride and regularly does. His hero is Travis Pastrana. Great story.
