This series of photos was taken on a moment’s notice in my studio one day. I was wanting to do some light tests and Emily was at the office working so I asked her to model briefly for me. She wasn’t prepared with hair or makeup but was a trooper and stood in for my tests. We only snapped a few pictures and I just loved how they turned out. I really liked the mysterious look of this first picture, with her eyes barely in focus. I had to gridded strip softboxes to the rear. This allowed the light to wrap around her sides and let her face go dark. The grids kept the light from spilling to far around to the front of the face, yet the softboxes gave a nice transition to the light wrap.
The second picture was a bit more traditional. Same lighting set up from the rear, but a front light providing a bit of fill and cutting down on the mystery just a bit.
