I photographed this beautiful Ducati Mach 1/s 250cc racer at Hallett Raceway in 2008. Owned by Gerald Tims of Performance Cycle in OKC, we were doing this for his 2009 calendar. I trailered the Ducati to the track and photographed it during the lunch break. I used two SB-800 flashes to light the bike against the cloudy background. I would liked to have used a much bigger softbox but only had 30 minutes between races to get the shot so couldn’t pull out the generator and studio lights. I felt strongly that the only place this bike should be photographed was at the racetrack, where it belonged.
1967 Ducati Mach1/S 250cc motorcycle portrait at Hallett Raceway. This Forumula III Ducati 250 was one of only a dozen made and imported by Berliner for racing purposes only. The gears are all straight cut and narrowed. The external oil lines to and from the head are unique to the FIII’s. The engine produced 35 HP at 9,000 RPM and ran approximately 135 mph.
This FIII was restored in 1973 using all of the original parts and tires were removed before racing. This was the last of the springhead racers. 5 star rating.
