Earlier this year I photographed the Dirty 30 Mud Run in Mulhall for Oklahoma Living Magazine. This annual event draws runners from all over central Oklahoma for a fun money raising charity. An obstacle course is built on the property and plenty of water is used to make for some very muddy conditions. Waves of about 400 runners depart every 30 minutes all morning long. My job was to photograph a particular runner who worked for an electric coop.
I set up a white backdrop near the finish line so that I could capture some of the runners covered with mud against a white backdrop. I thought it would be a great visual to have a clean white background to contrast with the runners covered in mud. I did some testing with other runners prior to my subject showing up. I also went out on the course and captured photos of the event just for fun.
Following are a few of the photos not used in the magazine.
