Recently I went to Tulsa Raceway Park to photograph PMRA motorcycle drag racing for my customer Tombo Racing. I shot digital images to begin with, and once I had plenty of photos for their use, I stayed and grabbed a few photos with my film cameras. I shot a bit on my Toyo VRX-125 view camera, which was extremely difficult. I also shot on my Pentax 6×7 on expired Kodak TMAX-100. The big Pentax is a joy to use. It handles like a big DSLR and is about the same weight as my Nikon D3s I use on a regular basis. The big bright viewfinder – better than any camera I have used – makes it extremely easy to manual focus. I grabbed a few shots in between lugging my tripod mounted 4×5 camera around.
It is difficult to tell whether these pictures were shot in 1965 or 2015, which I think is pretty cool. There are a few clues in the photos that they were shot in modern times. Can you pick them out?
