Time to retire. My shoes, that is. Today I just rolled over 250 miles running with my Under Armor Micro-G running shoes, and they are getting pretty worn. I recently bought a brand new pair of the exact same shoes – because I love them so much – and noticed that my feet are MUCH happier running in the new shoes. I track my running in Strava, which also tracks which pair of shoes I ran in, and today I just hit the 250 mile mark on these babies. So time to retire them from running and just use them as backup running shoes or for around the house chores.

The cool thing for me is that a year ago I wouldn’t have been able to run across the street even if a rabid mountain lion was chasing me. Now I am able to run 3 miles with ease, and regularly will run 6 miles in a session – that is twice around my favorite running spot, Mitch Park in Edmond. Now I have run 250 miles in just 5 months, which seems amazing to me.
If you have been wanting to get healthier, running is a great option. I don’t like running all that much, but man it is a great way to burn calories really quickly. And you can just start by walking. That is what I did. I started walking. A mile at first. Then two miles. Then I could do the 3 miles around Mitch. Next I started running a bit during my walk. I kept running a little more and eventually got where I could run quite a bit, and now I can run the 3 miles around without walking. It doesn’t happen overnight, and I had a few aches and pains, sore knees, sore feet and calves along the way, but now things are working pretty well and I am moving on to longer distances. You can do it to. You just have to make up your mind, and start putting one foot in front of the other, then repeat.
