Another image of Monument Valley shot with my Cambo 4×5 camera on Kodak E100 film. I was practicing the use of the Scheimpflug effect to tilt my front camera lens forward to throw the plane of focus perpendicular to the ground.

Another image from my trip in 1998 to southern Utah’s Monument Valley, again shot on my Cambo 4×5 view camera on Kodak E100 film. I was practicing with tilting my front lens standard to flip my plane of focus forward using the Scheimpflug effect.

By tiling the lens forward, the plane of focus (subject plane) can be tilted forward compared to the image plane (film plane) to make the depth of field more parallel to the ground. It is some complex math, but fairly easy to do and visualize, but it does take some practice to perfect.
