I was at the OKC Fairgrounds last week to photograph my cousin riding at a barrel racing competition and saw this farrier doing work on the horses. I took a couple of snapshots with my Nikon F3HP film camera and then he asked if I wanted to take a few more pictures. “I’m glad you asked. How about a really BIG camera?” Justin was agreeable, so I set up my Toyo VX-125 large-format view camera for some shots.
Side note: When I was a teenager at home I learned to shoe our own horses. My dad was a part-time farrier that provides services to clients. I just picked it up and did our own. That is some seriously hard work. I noticed that Justin had a few tricks that made it a bit easier. Smart guy!
