After leaving the motorcycle street drag races in Boley, I stopped by the old BJ Corral just north of Prague, Oklahoma. THis old building has quite a place in my history. I used to take my then fiance, and now wife of 40+ years, dancing on Saturday nights at BJ Corral. I would pick her up in my 1969 Ford Ranger XLT. She would snuggle up beside me on the bench seat while I drove the hour from our hometown of Choctaw, out past Meeker and Prague, then into the parking lot full of trucks. BJ Corral was THE best country and western dancing hall back in the late ’70’s. We spent many Saturday nights here boot-scooting and polishing belt buckles, mixed with the occasional fights with “the Harrah boys”. Harrah was a town near Choctaw and our chief rivals for the ladies back then.
After the dance, I would drive us home through the night, drop Kay off around 2-3 AM, go home to catch a bit of sleep, and be ready to work at 6 am the next morning. Glad I was young.
I don’t remember it looking quite so run down, but it might have been even back then. It was a dump even in the 70’s, but we didn’t care – we just wanted to dance and have fun.
It seems I had some processing issues with this image. I could have re-washed it, but I thought the stains and fingerprints just added to the character of the print. Kind of goes with the character of the place.
Lots of fun memories from BJ Corral.
