When I shoot large-format film, I never know if I got the shot until much later, often days later. It is so easy to chimp wiht a digital camera, but can’t do that with a film camera. Experience really helps. And I was very, very happy with this photo. I had to refocus several times because she kept creeping back and forth on her Can-Am three-wheeler. Finally I had to tell her “just turn it off!”
Once I got everything set, I adjusted my aperature to F11 so that I could get her entire vehicle in focus and not completely blur out the background. I had plenty of sunlight and no action behind her, so this worked out well. I like how you can see the scene behind her even though it is not in full focus. And best of all, she had a pistol on her hip. That really topped off the photo. I love people who are not afraid to protect themselves and don’t apologize for it. Good for her.
