I have read quite a bit about the VLA antennas in New Mexico and was excited to stop and photograph them while on our Jeep trip to Arizona. Unfortunately, the visitor center was closed so we couldn’t get closer to the antennas or read about the work they perform in person. This is in a very remote part of southern New Mexico so not much traffic around. We stopped at first by where these tracks cross the highway. These are NOT railroad tracks. They are tracks used to move the VLA antennas to and from their location and back to their maintenance facility. I thought these tracks added to the photo so included them in this first photo. Later I drove down a dirt road and took image #186, which I like better.
