There are a lot of roadside memorials along the backroads of New Mexico. It seems quite common to build a memorial for a loved one. There are so many along the roads, I am not sure that all these people actually perished at these spots. Maybe family just wanted to memorialize them somewhere? I don’t know.
This one caught my eye, partially because of the elaborate decorations, but the reason I decided to photograph it with my 4×5 view camera was because it had the “Born to Ride” sign. Was this a family member who wrecked their motorcycle at this spot? Or maybe they died in a car, but just liked to ride? Hard to say, but I decided it take the time to capture this photo as part of my 4x5x365 project.
Once again I shot this on Ilford Delta Pro 100 film with my Nikon-W 210mm F5.6 lens set at F16 and 1/125th of a second. I developed the image in Kodak D76 developer at 9 minutes and 20C.
