I like to walk, mostly for exercise but also to explore. And often my early morning walks take me to back alleys around town. I like to carry a small camera and take pictures.
As I wandered and took pictures, I started noticing the back doors of businesses. Some were drab, some utilitarian, some colorful, some nearly functional, and some neglected. I started taking pictures of these back doors as a hobby during my walks, and eventually gathered a collection.
I find them interesting. Some businesses care about how their back doors look. Others could care less and maybe seldom use their back doors. Other businesses use their back doors strickly as emergency exists, while others view them as secret exits and entrances.
I find the varying styles, colors, shapes, and uses of back doors interesting and now make it a point to photograph back doors when I visit new cities.
Below are some of the more interesting back door photos I have found, and at the bottom, a slide show of back doors.
