Before putting away my gear after my return from my editorial assignment in Guatemala, I decided to make a video about the gear that I used, the gear that I took and didn’t use, and the gear I wish I had taken but didn’t – HINT – I pretty well had everything I needed.
I had never been to Guatemala, but I had been to Costa Rica, so I knew the conditions. I expected rain and humidity, and we certainly got that in spades on this trip. My job was to shoot primarily photos and some video of electric utility linemen from Oklahoma and Arkansas as they worked to bring power to remote farm homes in north central Guatemala. I needed to perform basic edits each evening and then upload web-sized images to my editors each night for use on social media the next day. Later I would provide full-resolution images and video for the creation of a book and video of the trip.
Watch the video below to find out about the gear I used, and to see some of the working conditions we had on the trip.
