Adam and the Crazy Squirrel

A few years ago, around 2006, my son Adam Pratt and I rode our CBR-1000RR motorcycles through Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado. I was in the lead and Adam was behind. A squirrel ran out in front of my bike and I hit the darn thing but didn’t kill it. Adam saw it flopping around on the side of the road and as an inexperienced teenager, he decided to pick it up and see if he could help save the squirrel. Wrong move. Squirrels have giant front teeth and the frantic squirrel chomped through his gloves and into his finger, biting it to the bone. Adam yelled and threw the squirrel halfway to the moon, and we had to interrupt our ride to take him to the medical clinic in Estes Park. They treated his wound and sent him on his way.

My wife and I will be taking our Jeep Wrangler on the same route, so I decided to use Microsoft Copilot AI to write a poem about the occasion and create funny pictures depicting the event.

In Rocky Mountain's scenic heart,
Rode Adam Pratt with his dad, James, smart.
Astride their bikes, Honda CBRs,
They zoomed past peaks reaching for the stars.

Through twists and turns, they rode with glee,
The wind in their hair, wild and free.
But Adam saw, on the roadside blur,
A squirrel in need, of that he was sure.

He stopped his bike with a gentle skid,
To help the creature, that's what he did.
A googlie-eyed squirrel, spastic and spry,
Smiled at Adam, oh, so sly.

With fur all frazzled, and eyes so wide,
It looked quite harmless from the side.
But as Adam reached with a finger so near,
The squirrel leapt with a look quite queer.

A nibble, a bite, oh, what a shock!
Adam's finger was now the squirrel's lock.
Off to Estes Park, they had to race,
To find a doctor, just in case.

So let this be a lesson, quite clear,
When riding through mountains, hold squirrels dear.
For they might seem cute, with a smile so big,
But they're nuts about fingers, ready to dig!
